چکیده

There is clear scientific interest in using the photometry from a star tracker to observe variable stars. Despite the small aperture, the advantages of space (long observing periods and no atmospheric scintillation) make such a camera superior to ground-based telescopes for some applications. The only example so far has been the work by Buzasi et al. (2000 and these Proceedings), who are making impressive use of the 52-mm star camera on the WIRE satellite after the failure of the main instrument. As far as we know, MONS is the first mission to be designed from the start to use star trackers for science. Of course, we must keep in mind that the primary role of the star trackers is to sense spacecraft attitude with the precision required for the main camera.

Prospects for Observing Pulsating Red Giants with the Mons Star Trackers

K and M giants show variability on timescales from years down to days and possibly even hours. I discuss the contribution that can be made with high-precision photometry that will be obtained by the MONS Star Trackers. These include observations of flare-like events on Mira variables, and oscillation spectra for K giants and short-period M giants.

Mons on the Danish Rømer Satellite: Measuring Oscillations in Nearby Stars

MONS (for Measuring Oscillations in Nearby Stars) is the scientific project on the Danish Rømer satellite mission, which is being developed as part of the Danish Small Satellite Programme. The principal goal is to study solarlike oscillations in around 20 bright stars, with a precision that in the best cases will be limited only by the intrinsic stellar ‘noise’. The baseline orbit, a so-called ...

ارائه الگوریتم شناسایی ستاره بر مبنای رأی‌گیری هندسی به منظور استفاده در ردیاب‌های ستاره‌ای

Star identification is one of the most important stages in attitude determination with star trackers. This can be performed using matching algorithms between observed stars and a master star catalogue. The main challenge in this approach is to provide a fast and reliable identification algorithm that is sufficiently robust in different pointing views of the star tracker optical system in the sp...

Low-Frequency Error Extraction and Compensation for Attitude Measurements from STECE Star Tracker

The low frequency errors (LFE) of star trackers are the most penalizing errors for high-accuracy satellite attitude determination. Two test star trackers- have been mounted on the Space Technology Experiment and Climate Exploration (STECE) satellite, a small satellite mission developed by China. To extract and compensate the LFE of the attitude measurements for the two test star trackers, a new...

A Brightness-Referenced Star Identification Algorithm for APS Star Trackers

Star trackers are currently the most accurate spacecraft attitude sensors. As a result, they are widely used in remote sensing satellites. Since traditional charge-coupled device (CCD)-based star trackers have a limited sensitivity range and dynamic range, the matching process for a star tracker is typically not very sensitive to star brightness. For active pixel sensor (APS) star trackers, the...
